It easily meets Firefox and Vista requirements. Clearly not a RAM issue. And many thanks to those suggesting I contact Messrs. Gates and Ballmer. SUCH a helpful suggestion! Also, your bug link is invalid. Will try the zip file and advise. Thanks, pk does your system meet all requirements of firefox as mentioned

Vista Installation Fails After First Reboot
Now, Gary, if you must know (presumably you're primed to tell me why I *shouldn't* upgrade to Vista), I upgraded to Vista because I am a PC support professional, and I will soon be having clients using it, and I need to know about it. Also, I ran the upgrade rather than a clean install partly to save time,

If I do have to buy a new computer before moving to Linux, I'm just as likely to wipe Vista off and install XP or Win2K. sigh. The Luddites are still out there. Aggiornamento per Windows Vista (KB941649) non riuscito
Why did you want to upgrade to Vista from XP? Because it's pretty, and new? Grin. XP wasn't pretty/new/anything enough for me to dump 2K. As a non-gaming user, I'd say Win 2K is the most solid OS Microsoft ever put out. In fairness, there were/are some nice features in XP[-P], but it never ran as stably for me as

Vista installation fails during first reboot-attempt
This should run Vista quite well. Blue screens during install can be frustrating because the errors dont stay on the screen long enough to read them. You would think after Windows had been shipping for 10+ years, they would have made setup a little more foregiving, but maybe we will get that in Windows 2014.

Still, when I replace a computer (3 in use here), then I am sure I will have Vista Premium on the new one. Might be a couple of years, though. I think I'll be moving to Linux on my next computer.
